QDEP is currently working on a number of city council resolutions. There are two specifically that we’re focusing on, one that’s only LGBTQI focused and another that is focused on all immigrant detainees.
The three are:
- Res. No. 53: Resolution calling on the New York State Legislature to pass and the Governor to sign the Humane Alternatives to Long-Term Solitary Confinement Act. By Council Members Dromm, Levine, Mendez, Palma, Rose and Rosenthal
- Res. No. 569: Resolution focused on the United States Department of Homeland Security to investigate abuse allegations and take action to ensure the safety of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender immigrants in the custody of the United States Department of Homeland Security. By Council Members Dromm, Chin, Cohen, Gentile, Johnson, Koslowitz, Mendez, Rodriguez, Rosenthal and Menchaca
- Res. No. 589: Resolution focused on the United States Department of Homeland Security to end the practice of placing immigrant detainees in solitary confinement. By Council Members Dromm, Chin, Eugene, Johnson and Menchaca
QDEP is seeking other advocates in NYC to sign- on and show their support of these resolutions. Please note, that Res. No. 589 is inclusive of ALL immigrant detainees.
